Severn River Men beat Delmarva 45-10

An overcast day in Delmarva, Delaware proved better weather for Severn River Men’s Rugby as they improved to 1-1 on the season in a 45-10 win over Delmarva.   Scoring started early off a scrum with Niko Fiataugaluia, as he dominated the wing and touched down in the corner. touching down on a well spun out ball in the corner.  It looked like the tries would be pouring in as Kenneth Etheridge took a clearing kick well to set Erik Dronberger free down the wing, and with a lovely pop kick over the fullback finished for the second try.  Severn looked a bit sloppy over the next twenty minutes before Erik Dronberger slipped through the backline ten meters out and converted to go up 19-0 at halftime.    Phillip Denton came on at fullback at halftime after Larry Grassi fulfilled his scrumhalf duties, as Killian McDonald switched to scrumhalf.  A scattered defense by River led to Delmarva getting on the score sheet, but Severn were quick to answer as they gathered the kickoff and with lovely forward play marched down the field, until Killian McDonald slipped past the Delmarva forwards for a try.  Delmarva quickly scored again, but were outmatched the rest of the day.  Severn put their foot down and scored four consecutive tries, Justin Taylor getting on the scoresheet twice destroying a wing on one and scuttling past the defense for his second. Erik Dronberger added to his tally, while Joe Witles scored on his debut.  Final score, Severn River scored seven tries with five conversions for a 45- 10 win. A good rebound from a tough game in 100 degree weather against North Bay.
